This occurred to me as I was driving: what song would be a good song to die to?
I know, it's a very morbid though, but also quite fascinating. Assuming that you could play any song while you die, and also assuming that you can still hear, what would I choose? And then the next song that came up on my iPod is Something Corporate's "21 & Invincible". And I thought, wow, this is it. This would make a great song to die to.
This all played out in my head, this scenario. So imagine a guy, a young one at that, say 18 or 19. Because 21 would be too coincidental and not realistic. So let's say this guy is walking on the street, and he was wearing his headphones and playing song. But out of nowhere comes this drunk driver, and the car just hits him hard, and he falls to the ground, dying, slowly but surely, while this song is playing in his ears.
"woah, 21 and invincible
woah, can't wait to screw this up
and woah, 21 and invincible
i'm in power for the hour
guess today's gonna blow us away
when mom hears this song
she'll tell me im crazy
and she'll say to me
"son youre much too fun, go have some fun don't waste your youth like i did"
and woah, 21 and invincible
woah, can't wait to screw this up
and woah, 21 and invincible
i'm in power for the hour
i guess today's gonna blow us away
and it's been autumn since the day that i met you
if i had bottomed, i'd crawl out alone
and i dont wish you know the secrets of summer at all"
Have the setting to be in the summer, let's say the summer before this guy is about to go to college, ready to start a new chapter in his life. Now wouldn't that be ironic. It's just occurred to me that this song is the perfect song to invoke feelings of sadness, because it's so cheery, so optimistic, but the situation just makes the song so much worse and so much harder to bear as you see this guy dying on the road.
This would make a great ending to a story, any story, and maybe I'll write this story, simply because I like the ending so much. I'll probably work on the ending first, and most likely I will stop there.
