Hahahaha, just kidding. But maybe I AM really reading too much into this. Just think about this for a second. Review the basic plot of Disney's famous Lady and the Tramp cartoon.
First of all, the dogs are not really dogs. I hope that is painfully obvious to you that the dogs are obviously human archetypes. Lady is the good-looking girl with no personality. Sure, she may look hot, but there ain't too much on her mind, if you know what I mean. And Tramp, well, Tramp is your typical badboy: he's just got out of the pound; he's a deliquent; he's rebellious.
And you know of course that the Lady JUST HAS TO fall in love with the Tramp. Well, if you don't call that reinforcing stereotypes, I don't know what stereotypes are. But the movie also gives a stereotypical answer to why Lady falls in love with the Tramp. Obviously it is because she wants to convert him from a deliquent to a family man. In the end the Lady and the Tramp gets married, and the Tramps becomes a father-figure, and is therefore domesticated and calmed down.
Like I said, I maybe reading too much into this, but either this is very coincidental, or the movie is really trying to indoctrinate young girls at an early age that they should go for the bad guys and the bad guys will be converted, through the power of love, into the good guy. And you wonder why girls go for the bad guys: they simply want to change them into "good guys".
And I almost forget to mention Scotty, the only character in the movie who is concerned for the Lady and remains loyal to her. Hello! Does that spell NICE GUY, hell yeah it does. You best believe it. So you don't even need me to tell you what happened to Scotty: he gets brushed off to the side, but the Lady considers him a friend still. Sound familiar? Only too often.
Disney indoctrination or innocous love story? You decide, but being the skeptical bastard that I am, I will go with the propaganda route, if simply to provoke people.
Posted by humanflyz at July 12, 2005 06:46 PM | TrackBackwell, i guess it's just more romantic to people that the bad guys turn good in the end. So, we, as NICE guys should first convert ourselves into tramps in hope that some stupid lady bitches who are inspired to make a fucken difference in other people's lives walk by and notice us.
of course that isn't quite convenient
and that explains why countries like thailand exist, i mean, no offense, love is only 100 yuan overseas
hahaha, don't worry man, it's just a Disney movie.
Posted by: mike z at July 14, 2005 09:19 AMhey "guo"! how dare you diss my country!! sex does not equal love. and don't generalize as a way to justify why you can't get a girl. just kidding. i'm sure you are a charmingly handsome guy. haha ok bye!
Posted by: pim at July 15, 2005 04:42 PMWhat they don't tell you in the movie is that the tramp, on the inside, stays a tramp (for people's true selves don't change). Hence, he's transformed on the outside, but only for a short duration. Then his tramp self comes out, Lady finds out she can't change him, they bitch with each other for a few months, and then divorce. Yup, there's the stereotype that's more realistic
