Me Luv You Long Time

Sometimes, Asian people, more specifically Chinese people, just really piss me off.

Why? Because of their racism. Just because statistically speaking, Asians are better-off socioeconomically than other minorities does not make it right for them to start judging other minorities. Stop me if you haven't heard this before: a bunch of Asian people are sitting around the dinner table, and soon enough they start to talk about other races. They start to say how black people are lazy or too promiscous, or how Mexicans are just a bunch of thieves. Just stop me if you are Asian and you haven't heard this before.

But to what do Asian people attribute their own "success"? Their culture. They say that the Asian culture promotes diligence, frugality, and family-values. That's why, according to Asian people, that they are successful because 1)they save 2)they are hard-working and 3) they don't have a large number of single-parent families on welfare.

I don't know about you, but I find all of that an excuse for a superiority complex. Asian people think that just because they are better-off than other minorities that they somehow are superior. Well you know what, it's just an attempt to be white. But here's the thing: no matter how much Asian people try to imitate white people, they will never be accepted as whites. They will forever be looked at as the "model minority", a model for sure, but a minority nonetheless.

I mean, there are just so many little, subtle things that reflect Asian racism toward other races. Asian people shop at Mexican supermarkets. Why? Because they are cheaper than most other grocery stores. Asian parents tell their children to learn Spanish? Why, because one day they think their children have Mexican people working under them? Now you have to ask yourself, why not the other way around? Why not tell your children that they should learn Spanish because they might be working for some Mexican guy in the future? But of course such a "preposterous" idea has never occured to Asian parents because all they can ever imagine is their children in a doctor's coat or a lawyer's suit.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's time that Asian people stopped trying to copy white people and start to get their own goddamn identities. I'm Chinese, but I sure as hell don't feel Chinese, and although I'm an American citizen, I sure as hell don't feel like a goddamn American. So what do I do? I listen to 2Pac, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, and Eminem. I mean, where are the Asian role-models for crying out loud? I mean, it's so much beyond irony that I am listening to Eminem, a white person doing what is predominantly a black form of music. It's total confusion.

So Asian people, stop the subtle racism. But then again, I'm just being hypocritical, because at the end of the day, EVERYONE, not just any race, has an inherent fear of other races. Think about this: why is it okay for the Mexicans to mow your lawns but not okay for them to become your neighbors? Guilty as charged.

Well...while I applaud some of the successes of the larger Asian community in their sojourn here in America...we'll see how things look in a couple of generations here in our highly individualized, consumerist society.

Humanflyz, hey, the above "Anthony" is NOT me (just wanted to say that for the record). . .About Asian racism, this point you made was particularly insightful: "it's time that Asian people stopped trying to copy white people". This is something that all non-white races in America do to some extent. . .sad but true. Great post.

One of the most confusing conversations around right now is what does it mean to be really black? Acting like Lil' Jon or Wayne Brady?

must've been hampton, then.

to be back is to claim to recognize the pangs of slavery in the past, but hypocritically disregard it by projecting an image of the ghetto and crime, instead, as the basis of the neo african-american culture.

is anyone getting a high response from their bullshit metres? because i am, and i'm wondering why i just typed what i typed.

all of our bullshit meters must have exploded a long time ago.

I have to disagree with you man. Asians are Duke Nukems, if that made any sense. Essentially, I think "Asians are equal-racist elitists" I discriminate against everyone, we don't just go for the black and mexicans, we can't stop there, we go for the Indians to the whites. we call english "niao yu"(bird language), if that's not discrimination, I don't know what is. and also, you're chinese-american. stop trying to identify with the chinese or americans alone
